Stamp collecting is a very popular hobby all over the world. People have been collecting stamps since the first Penny Black was created in 1840. Children and teenagers began to collect stamps because they were fun and interesting. Most adults thought the hobby was silly but helped their children collect stamps to humor them. As these young collectors grew up, stamp collecting also became an adult hobby.
When adults began collecting stamps, most were very serious about their collections.
